United States
Приєднався 26 чер 2014
Official UA-cam channel of Phil Town and Rule #1 Investing. Phil Town is an Investment Advisor, Hedge Fund Manager, 3x New York Times Best-Selling Author of Rule #1, Payback Time, and Invested, and Ex-Grand Canyon River Rafting Guide. Rule #1 Investing is Warren Buffett style investing, teaching you how to buy businesses on sale, with little risk. In fact, Rule #1 investing is practically immune to the ups and downs of the stock market.
The Rule was first set by Columbia University’s Benjamin Graham and then, more famously, adhered to by Graham’s student and the world’s most successful professional investor-Warren Buffett. According to Buffett, “There are only two rules of investing: Rule #1: Don’t lose money . . . and Rule #2: Don’t forget Rule #1.”

Despite all the mystique around investing, it essentially boils down to understanding the business you’re investing in and viewing it as owning a part of a real company, not just buying a stock. This tends to hold true no matter the company, the industry, or the state of the market as a whole. Few investors have understood this as well as Warren Buffett and his team at Berkshire Hathaway. With ...

While the market may be volatile, the Rule #1 strategy is solid. We look for companies we understand, that we know can make it through the 'vicissitudes of life.' Unless there is a major shift to the company's story, we should maintain our position as if we will own the company forever. In this video, Phil dives deeper into the concept of Mr. Market and how to use his irrational outlook to your...

Love you Phil!
Great to have your perspective on such an iconic company; thank you!
Great tips
Nice to see you both again , If I could controll my emotions , i would be a Daytrader not a Value investor :)
I day traded for a year and didn't make money. That was when it was in it's infancy in 1998-99. Only 10percent of our group made enough money to live on. Current stats show the same results.
How is FCF different than "profit" or Net Income?
Phil Town nailed it. This channel is very educational and the explanation is very easy to understand.
I'm 32 and my income is lower than when I was 19 and I'm totally dependent. I'm also just learning how to drive and going to community college. I'll be going through everything I should have done in my early 20s but with the societal expectations of a 30 year old on my shoulders. Bleh, maybe I can still make up for lost time but it's hard not to get discouraged
The music kills the video, I'm out.
Thank you Phil. You're a wonderful teacher. I'm so grateful for your great advice. You are a gem.
Well said!!!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thing is, it’s different traveling in your early 30s than in your late 30s. Depends the lifestyle and way of seeing life. My right knee is starting to hurt and I want to make a use of it while it still has more collagen 😂
How’s that crash going Phil? Embarrassing
Omaha, huh? I will be keeping an eye out!
Happy Father's Day, Phil!
Natural resource companies are very cheap right now. There are some fantastic opportunities in Oil & Gas, platinum, base metals and precious metals miners. I have heard Buffet say he could guarantee a 50% return on a 1-10 million dollar portfolio.
So a house is a bad asset??
Great advice. Thank you.
Business, management discussion.
Real estate is generally a bad idea if you don’t live in the dwelling. Property taxes, tenants, manintenance, liabilities, insurance, squatters, etc.
Phil, you’re the best teacher ever! Your podcast and workshop has exponentially raised my confidence in investing. Thank you so much!!
Great explanation!
Even though I was already an experienced and successful Quality Growth at Reasonable Price (QGARP) Value Investor I still found Phil's 3 day in person course very useful. While I was familiar with much of the material covered on the first day and a half of the course, the information was still valuable to me, as it was so reinforcing. The more you understand the QGARP approach and why it works, the more rational and disciplined you can be in its implementation. This reduces the chance of cognitive biases and emotions causing you to do costly and stupid things that can harm your peformance. I learned some different valuation approaches on the course and was also introduced to some useful new software tools including the Rule1 Toolbox (which I have subscribed to ever since) and ThinkorSwim . The course also really was the catalyst to get me started using Options. Since the course, I have successfully enhanced my QGARP investing with the use of basic options and in particular selling Puts on shares I want to buy. The course is intensive and covers a lot of ground in the time. The lecturers were good and the course was well taught. It was nice interacting with Rule1 coaches and meeting other like-minded investors from around the world. My wife later did the online 3-day course which she also thought was good. Meeting Phil and going to his ranch and the competition were probably the main benefits of attending in person compared to doing the online course. The course will be particularly useful for people new to investing or who have dabbled unsuccessfully in the stock market learning what not to do the hard way. I would strongly recommend this three day course for anyone prepared to do a little work and who is prepared to take responsibility for their financial futures, so they can invest well themselves instead of paying someone else to do it badly. By teaching a tried and proven approach to long-term focused investing, the course will hopefully ensure that those starting out on their investment journey will have a good chance of outperforming the market, whilst at the same time reducing their chances of losing capital. Thanks to Phil Town for sharing his knowledge and experience. He and his Rule1 team have assisted so many smaller retail investors learn to invest better.
That's was my coach. Hey Donamae
Good stuff. Thank you for the rundown.
5:40 so simply said !
You are an encyclopedia. I took notes as much as I could , lots of technical words to look for . 😅
Thanks for the reminder
Sometimes (especially when you're new at investing) you just make mistakes, and it's just best to strap on a parachute and bail out. That's not being emotional. That's being realistic. Learn from your mistake, take your lumps, and move on.
You avoided depression because China gave you the money.
The audiobook version of "Invested" is in my automobile CD player. I'm really enjoying it. Good information. I've been buying individual stocks for a little over a year now, and though I'm realizing how foolish I've been in some of my purchases, my eyes have been opened. Thanks to your book, I'm a much more selective and prudent investor.

Just had a haircut at Ulta yesterday and a great bit of talking with the staff and found out that David Kimball was just there a month ago. Although all the staff said they would miss Mary Dillion they seemed to come away very positive with David after meeting him. So, keeping Ulta on my wonderful list but a close eye on them.
Great content! as the world crisis progresses the smartest thing people do lately is building a strong investment that isn’t controlled by the government. Like digital currencies.
Access to good information is what investors need to progress financially in life. Here’s a good one and I’m gratefully I’m not surprised by the amount investment is the higher you invest the higher you earn.
When Warren paid a premium like for Precision Cast Parts it did well. You get what you pay for.
Thanks for the good info
I'll come to your 2025 Birkshire event guys !
Always nice to see/listen your podcasts, has been very enjoyable to listen and learn from you, many thanks.
Chipotle is about to 50:1 split... to make it that 64$/share, seems a good time for first timers to get in. Especially if goes back to 3k/share. Thoughts?
Thanks for the question! When a company performs a stock split, what is being split is the stock price. The way that the stock price is split is by adding more shares. In the case of Chipotle, the number of shares being added is 50 times the number of current shares. What that means is instead of there being 27.5 million shares outstanding, there will now be 50 times that amount, or 1.375 billion shares outstanding. Now that the number of shares outstanding has changed, all of the per share metrics will also change. Essentially everything will be divided by 50. As an example, if CMG has a book value of $100/share pre-split, post-split the book value would be $2/share. In terms of valuing the business, a stock split doesn't change much for us because a stock split does not put a company on sale. If CMG is currently priced at $3000/share, and our on sale price is $1000/share, following the stock split CMG would be priced at $60/share, and our on sale price would be $20/share. The stock split doesn't place the company on sale, it only reduces the share price by increasing the share count.
